ABI SIMPSON
Broadcast
This page is a demonstration of the broadcast journalism that Abi has created during her time at University. This work ranges from short Radio and TV news packages, to longer form documentaries. Abi chose to major in radio for her final multimedia assessment, the result of which you can see as the first entry on this page.

Meningitis: The Killer in Disguise
This award-winning short 7 minute radio documentary was created by Abi as her final year major project for university. She chose to concentrate on the top of meningitis in young adults following reports of a fatality in Bournemouth. After further investigation it was clear that this was a topic which had little coverage but something which could be fatal if missed by the potential victims. The documentary was made alongside a production blog which provided additional information, extra audio clips of interviews, and medical advice. The final piece was produced in the style of a Radio 1 Story, and was given endorsement by the Meningitis Research Foundation.

FGM: A Cutting Education

Abi, alongside 3 other Bournemouth University students, made this short TV documentary about Female Genital Mutilation. They worked with schools leading the teaching about FGM to young vulnerable children, victims, and medical professionals to produce this feature about the crime and its impacts.
The video is now being used as an information piece for GP's and their patients in Dorset and Hampshire.

Transgender Radio Documentary
This documentary was part of Abi's 'Feature for Change' project for university. The piece designed for a Radio 1 audience discusses the trans community and what more can be done to abolish prejudices. It hears from those experiencing trans life first-hand and speaks to parents with trans children.
Get with the programme
Abi was Editor for a half hour programme created by a group of Bournemouth University students in the run up to the UK General Election in 2015. The segment aimed to address issues of bias and sexism within politics. During the piece we hear an exclusive interview with the Lid Dem candidate for Mid Dorset and North Poole at the time, Vikki Slade. She shares her first hand account of sexism on the door step and discusses the issue of bias within politics as a whole.
